Just Press Print! The World's First 3D Printed Car

Sep 21, 2011 02:33 PM

With the advent of 3D printers, advancements in the technology allow some truly amazing possibilities. Just a handful of examples include printable architecture, Anish Kapoor's sculptures; even Boeing uses some printed parts in the manufacturing of their airplanes.

The latest on the forefront is the Urbee Hybrid, a car whose entire body is constructed with (literally) printed-out parts.

The Urbee is made with Stratasys' Dimension 3-D printers and Fortus 3-D Production System. The prototype is not yet entirely complete, but you can see how the partial vehicle handles turns in the video below. Not bad. Plus, the Urbee car gets up to 200 mpg on the highway and 100 mpg in city conditions using either gasoline or ethanol.
